PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: PYPL) today launched the Zettle Terminal in the UK, an all-in-one point of sale (POS) solution that offers increased mobility in-store for small businesses. The Zettle Terminal is ready to go right out of the box, it does not require a second device to pair it with. Featuring a sleek touchscreen, this all-in-one mobile point of sale system is easy to setup and use, offering small businesses simplicity and efficiency.

The release is well-timed with consumers making greater use of contactless cards and digital wallets, and contactless payments set to make up almost half (47%) of all UK payments by the end of 2021. As small business owners work tirelessly to grow their business after the setback of the pandemic, the Zettle Terminal aims to support their recovery, providing a touchless POS solution to help them grow their business and better serve their customers.

“Small businesses, particularly in-person small businesses, have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. As consumer behaviour continues to move toward digital channels, small businesses need to digitise. With Zettle Terminal, we’re helping small businesses in the UK digitise to meet the needs of consumers who want a seamless commerce experience across all channels – in-store, online and on mobile,” shared Jim Magats, PayPal’s senior vice president of payments and small business solutions. “The Zettle Terminal is a complete, mobile in-store and omnichannel solution that offers a range of flexible payment options and interoperability across ecommerce, accounting and banking partners to help businesses run seamlessly and efficiently.”

As a result of the pandemic, small businesses have had to rethink their on-site layout to minimise touchpoints and ensure customers’ peace of mind—all while still providing a personalised experience across all channels online and in-store.

The Zettle Terminal comes with a pre-loaded SIM card2; its combined WiFi and cellular connectivity means that small businesses are no longer dependent on fixed check-out points. It makes the checkout completely mobile; the seller is free to complete the entire checkout process, from start to finish, where the customer is—on the shop floor, by the table, on the terrace, at the point of delivery or anywhere where there’s cellular coverage. It can also be paired with a dock that has a built-in printer for on-the-spot receipt printing.

Pita London jumped at the opportunity to trial the device. “We were delighted to use the new Zettle Terminal. The thought and detail put into building the terminal is impressive. A perfect combination of well-made detailed hardware with user friendly yet sophisticated software. It’s the ultimate payment solution that adds speed and efficiency for our busy operations” said Akiva Cashman from Pita London.

Following the HM Treasury’s decision to raise the contactless limit per transaction to £100, the Zettle Terminal helps to provide a secure tool for small business owners to efficiently process payments and frees up valuable time for customer service, engagement and interaction.

The Zettle Terminal is now available in the UK and will continue to roll-out across additional markets in Europe in 2021 and into 2022, and in the U.S. next year. In 2022, the Zettle Terminal will feature an integrated barcode scanner which would provide a seamless checkout for customers on the go.

Enabling small businesses to seamlessly sell across in-person and online channels, the Zettle Terminal also offers interoperability through PayPal’s vast partner network, so businesses can easily link their accounts with their preferred ecommerce, accounting and banking partners including, Starling Bank, Intuit Quickbooks and WooCommerce.

Ajit Ramachandran, Fintech Business Segment & Product Leader, Intuit Quickbooks UK & Canada, said: “From starting up to scaling up, our connected platform of tools and expert services lets small businesses seamlessly manage and grow their business from one place; giving them the insights to take on every day with total confidence, the foresight to stay one step ahead, and the power to be more successful. Our partnership with Zettle is a key part of achieving this as it allows firms to take payments, all the way to reconciling their books, all within QuickBooks. We’re really excited about the impact our customers will see.”

With customers embracing a wide range of ways to pay, the in-store and omnichannel POS comes with the Zettle point-of-sale app pre-installed, and small businesses will get an integrated solution that not only helps them accept a range of payments in-person including cards, digital wallets and PayPal QR Codes but also helps them manage sales, inventory, reporting and payments across channels, all in one place.

The device retails at £149, with the printer and dock at £89. Small businesses can buy the Zettle Terminal with a printer and dock as a bundle at £199. In the UK, the device comes with a pre-loaded SIM card and the Zettle point-of-sale app pre-installed, which is free to use. More details can about the device can be found here.
